Composite material is being used in the industry due to its lightness, strength and resistance to corrosion. However, there are serious technical difficulties when it comes to inspection as conventional non-destructive testing methods cannot easily provide useful information.
Acoustic emission can detect failure in composite material by the use of sensors placed on the surface of the test material. This helps to detect acoustic emission events which are produced as a consequence of failures in the material, i.e., a main break or disbonding between layers of the material.
