Failure in pressure vessels can cause great damage. Inspection and evaluation are always critical safety factors. Acoustic emission is a very valuable tool for the evaluation of the mechanical integrity of a pressure vessel. It allows to inspect the whole structure and, as it is a non-intrusive method, it is not necessary to go inside the vessel.
Acoustic emission allows the monitoring of the vessel for long periods of time and also the detection of active and emerging cracks. It can identify where on the surface of the vessel the crack is located.
